In this presentation I introduce inquiy graphics (Lacković 2020), specific multimodal and hybrid signs in the context of higher education and learning. Any kind of visual medium purposefully used for semiotic and cross-disciplinary analysis in a teaching-learning inquiry is an inquiry graphic. In other words, inquiry graphics are any types of visual media that students and teachers choose, create and/or co-create in relation to educational themes, concepts, practices and narratives, for the purpose of deep, divergent and critical thinking. They are rhizomatic signs because they are sociomaterial, embodied, environmental and pluriversal signs of knowledge and teaching-learning.An inquiry graphics pedagogy is an applied semiotic practice that fosters abductive insight as it habituates the mind into seeking unusual, intuitive and creative connections and solutions as important aspects of intelectual inquiry and relational mind work. One of its key characteristics is the blending of Peircean triadic sign and elements of Barthesian structuralism. The term itself stems from an idea to position it in comparison to infographics: whereas inforgraphics provide visual summaries that can make quick impact, inquiry graphics require a slow, deliberate, effortful and creative learning engagement. I'll provide examples of how teachers and students have created and applied inquiry graphics through comics and photographs in diverse fields, such as language learning, educational psychology, social and health care.Reference Lacković, N.
