September 2023, in Brazil, was marked by records of above-average rainfall, extreme heat and low relative humidity. The media highlighted several sources of flooding, landslides, fires and cyclones. Such events demonstrate how urgent the issue of climate change is and the need for mobilization to face the consequences and damage. Research also points to the possibilities of mitigating the causes through interdisciplinary educational practices focused on the environment and sustainability. If we have always believed in the efficiency of education as a factor of social transformation, it is time to invest in it to face climate change, and bring about changes in behavior and human activities. However, this possibility is incipient and little applied in the world, and its effectiveness depends on the real collaboration of all areas of knowledge such as communication, which plays an important role in shaping public opinion and social awareness. It is not enough to inform, we need to avoid information pollution, thinking about educational environmental communication policies that allow everyone to understand the seriousness of the problem. We reflect on the importance of applying educational practices to journalistic articles about climate change in an interdisciplinary way. Starting from French semiotics, we analyzed reports from Folha de S.Paulo from September 2023 to understand how the media can escape the media saturation that causes more damage than repair. As a result, we see in the educational environmental communication policy an alternation in the formation of public opinion in the face of climate change.
